My Journey

From a local cable network to a digital newsroom — the stages that shaped more than two decades in journalism.

Every stage of this journey added something. The cable network taught me presentation. Reporting taught me how to find a story. Newspapers taught me newsroom discipline. Digital media taught me to adapt. And experience taught me that journalism is ultimately about trust.

The beginning

My journalism began with a local cable network, where I worked as a News Reader. It was my first introduction to the world of news, and it gave me the confidence and the experience of communicating stories to an audience.

Encounter

I then joined the local evening newspaper Encounter as a Reporter. This was an important step, because it took me from presenting the news to going out, reporting stories and understanding journalism from the ground.

Amar Ujala

After Encounter I joined Amar Ujala, where I worked for roughly two years. That experience helped me develop as a newspaper journalist and understand how newsroom systems function at a larger scale.

Punjab Kesari

In 2000 I joined the Punjab Kesari Group. It became one of the most important chapters of my professional life. Over the next eighteen years I worked extensively in newspaper journalism, gaining experience in reporting, editorial work and newsroom operations.

Exploring digital media

In 2018, recognising how quickly digital journalism was growing, I moved into the digital space. I spent around two years understanding digital news, content, audiences and the shifting media landscape.

Punjab Kesari Digital

I then joined the Punjab Kesari Group’s digital division as Punjab Head, Digital Media.

Today

My role has continued to evolve. I now serve as Deputy News Editor, looking after responsibilities across both the newspaper and digital media, including editorial responsibilities for Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.

My work also extends beyond conventional newsroom journalism. I conduct podcasts and conversations with political personalities and public figures, work on digital content and remain involved with social causes.

The journey continues, because journalism itself never stops evolving.
